System Requirements

To get Ashland Home Net AFN Internet Service, all that's required of you is a desire to experience the Internet the way it is meant to be. As far as your computer goes, here are some minimum requirements:

Operating Systems
  • Windows 2000: Pentium 133 or higher, 64 MB RAM, 100 MB free hard drive space.
  • Windows XP: Pentium 233 or higher, 128 MB of RAM, 100 MB free hard drive space
  • Windows Vista : Minimum Vista requirements
  • Windows 7: Minimum Windows 7 requirements
  • Windows 8: Minimum Windows 8 requirements
  • MAC OSX 10.1 or higher: Power Mac G3 or G4, 128 MB of RAM, 100 MB of free hard disk space
AFN Approved Cable Modems

AFN tests all modems proposed for use on it's network so that we may provide the highest level of support. All DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) modems are not created equal, and we have actually disapproved several during testing due to support issues.

The current list of approved Cable Modems is as follows:

  • Motorola SB61XX series
  • Motorola SB52XX series
  • Motorola SB51XX series

This list is not inclusive, and DOCSIS compliant modems that are not on the list should work equally well on the Ashland Fiber Network. This list does NOT certify the ability of any given modem to perform.   AFN does not warranty or otherwise guarantee the performance levels or technological obsolescence of any devices.  Please see your modem manufacturer's paperwork for any warranty information.  AFN will make every effort to maintain compatibility with older devices as it upgrades it's network but makes no (zero, none) warranty to that effect.
